Ibn Battuta is a world renowned traveler having been as far as China in his travels. He has heard tales of the Kingdom of Mali in West Africa that is filled with gold. He would like to see for himself this fabled land of gold. His journey will begin in the city where in 1324 Mansa Musa gave away so much gold its value became depressed. It is not gold and riches he seeks, it is the adventure. Battuta wants to know the truth. Do you? Where does Battuta need to go to begin his search for the truth?

Find a traditional African folktale and turn it into a storybook for children. Your storybook should be illustrated and colorful. You may hand draw it, or create it on the computer. The more beautiful and intricate your storybook is, the more XP and items you will earn!
Create a Relief Map of Africa-600XP+
Create a relief map of Africa. You may use clay, cardboard, salt water relief, etc. Be creative! The more details you have the more XP and items you will receive!

You are given the job as a Radio Show host, but you aren't an average radio host! You work for a station with a time machine! Your job is to go back to medieval Africa and report on an event for your show.Your show should include some guests from the time period. This side quest is not for the faint of heart! You will need to research an event, write a script, and record your show! Don't forget to include sound effects!

When you are out driving around with your family you've probably noticed bumper stickers on people's cars. They usually get your attention because they are colorful, funny, and interesting. Your quest is create a bumper sticker for a caravan in Africa for a group participating in the Gold-Salt Trade. Make sure your sticker is color and thoughtful! On the back you need to write an explanation of how it relates to the unit.

Create a creative way to display or have your fellow citizens learn the vocabulary words from the unit!
